Research Method

There was a total of 106 healthy older adults taking part in the research, all of which were compensated for their participation. To gain participants, stratified sampling was used to collect equal numbers with ages ranging from 65-69 to 80+. All of whom were native English speakers. Before any research began all were screened for psychological/neurological conditions which could potentially have a negative effect on their performance.

Researchers used a 35-item EMQ, to evaluate the frequency using various types of memory errors which occur in daily life. The items are organised into 5 separate categorises:
·      Speech
·      Reading/writing
·      Faces/Places
·      Actions
·      New Things
Researchers decided upon this because of the data driven categorises can be relatively specific to the public. Whereas a conceptual subscale are most likely to be used by other researchers.
